Acupuncture

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is when fine needles — about the width of your hair — are inserted into specific points on the body called acupuncture points. The needles stimulate the body’s natural functions.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture points lay near nerve spindles in the body. When they are stimulated by needles, they produce endorphins and dopamine which help relax the body and regulate blood flow. This stimulation triggers a response from the brain and peripheral nervous system.

In cases of pain, enkephalins are released and act as an endogenous corticoid steroid, your body’s own natural painkillers. Acupuncture is a great alternative for back pain and other pain symptoms, helping the body heal faster and providing relief.

In addition, the release of endorphins, dopamine and serotonin help relax the body and calm the mind. Many patients feel euphoric and tranquil after acupuncture treatments. Patients often report reduction of stress, better sleep, improved mood, productive digestion and much more.
